On May 24, 2025, Global French Education welcomed 39 participants to an open French class at 1 Bartley Bull Pkwy, Brampton, ON L6W 3T7. The session was intended for beginners and learners exploring practical French.

Making room for the answer

Everyday communication was approached as a two-way skill in this open class. Asking the time, arranging to meet and expressing preferences required learners to understand a question as well as formulate a reply. The teacher used interactive practice to connect those two actions, keeping the focus on meaning within a short exchange.

Putting the language into practice

Repeated question-and-answer practice gave learners opportunities to recognize familiar patterns. The value lies in noticing what information is requested: a time, an activity or a preference. Once that is clear, a short relevant reply can do more for communication than a longer sentence prepared without reference to the question.

A practice idea to take further

Ask À quelle heure ? and answer with a time, then practise Qu’est-ce que vous aimez faire ? with an activity. Listen for the question word before deciding what kind of answer to give.

A short exercise is most useful when you return to it. Revisit the exchange on another day, change one detail and notice what you can say without checking your notes. Use any remaining hesitation to choose a question for your next lesson.
