We are looking for French teachers who get students talking.
Not just teachers who explain well: there are plenty of those. We want someone who, within eight weeks, gets a student who is afraid to speak to raise their hand on their own.
Our teachers are native French speakers or hold DALF C1 or above, and each one goes through two rounds of trial lessons before teaching. We also hire assistants (see below).
Open roles
| Role | Type | Requirements |
|---|---|---|
| French teacher (levelled courses A1–B2) | Part-time / full-time | Native French speaker or DALF C1 or above; 2+ years of teaching experience |
| French teacher (intensive exam preparation TEF / TCF / DELF) | Part-time | Examiner qualification or 3+ years of exam-preparation experience |
| French teacher for young learners | Part-time | Experience teaching ages 6–12; familiarity with the immersion system preferred |
| Business French teacher | Project-based | Corporate training experience; able to prepare lessons using learners’ real work materials |
| Assistant | See “Assistants” | Write to careers@igedu.ca |
Our four teaching standards
- An entry bar: native French speaker or DALF C1 or above, and at least 2 years of experience teaching French as a foreign language (FLE).
- Two rounds of trial lessons before teaching.
- Unified materials for each level: teachers may add to them, never cut from them.
- An anonymous questionnaire at the end of every term.
Other core requirements
- Status: legally entitled to work in Canada
- Availability: able to commit to at least one full term (16 weeks)
What we value most
1. Getting students to speak In the teaching trial, we measure how much the learners talk, not how much the teacher talks. If you talk for 20 minutes and nobody speaks, you are usually not the right fit.
2. Marking and correcting Writing and speaking only improve when they are corrected. People willing to annotate sentence by sentence and ask for rewrites are rarer than people who teach beautifully.
3. Accepting classroom observation Two observations per term, with written feedback. If you can’t accept this, there’s no need to read further.
Selection process
| Step | What happens | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Send your résumé and a 3-minute self-introduction recording (in French) | — |
| 2 | Online interview | 30 minutes |
| 3 | First teaching trial (in front of our team, 20 minutes) | 40 minutes |
| 4 | Second teaching trial (with real learners, a full lesson) | 60 minutes |
| 5 | Background and qualification checks | 3–5 days |
| 6 | Onboarding: materials, progress schedule, observation system | 60 minutes |
Why the second trial is with real learners: teaching in front of colleagues and teaching in front of learners are two different things. Only the second shows real ability.
What we offer
- Shared handouts and a progress schedule (you don’t build courses from scratch)
- Joint lesson preparation for each level, every two weeks
- Two observations per term, with written feedback
- Pay per teaching hour, paid monthly; a separate rate factor for exam-preparation and business courses
- Teaching materials and an online platform account
Pay: negotiable by experience and teaching area. We don’t write things like “top of the market”; we give a specific range at the interview.
Assistants
We also hire assistants. An assistant who has completed one term and passes a trial lesson may teach independently.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to be on site? Levelled courses are taught at the school in fixed time slots. Exam preparation and one-on-one lessons can be partly online.
Can I teach just one class? Yes. We prefer someone who can reliably lead one class for a term over someone working for five schools at once.
Can I apply without teaching experience in Canada? Yes. Experience teaching FLE abroad is enough, but your qualifications must be verifiable.
Do you take assistants? Yes. An assistant who has completed one term and passes a trial lesson may move on to teaching independently.
How to apply
Write to: careers@igedu.ca
Email subject format: Application + role + name

We reply to every application within 5 business days, including those that are not a fit. If you don’t hear back, feel free to send it again.
