On May 10, 2025, Global French Education welcomed 24 participants to an open French class at 1 Bartley Bull Pkwy, Brampton, ON L6W 3T7. The session was intended for beginners and learners exploring practical French.

The whole interaction, not just the order

This restaurant conversation class followed the sequence of a meal: arriving, looking at the menu, ordering and asking for the bill. Breaking the interaction into stages gave learners a clear place for each expression. It also connected vocabulary with what comes next, so that making an order was part of a longer exchange.

Putting the language into practice

Working in pairs, participants alternated between customer and server. The change of role encouraged attention to both sides of the conversation. A customer needs to make a request; a server may ask a question or confirm a choice. Practising both roles makes those familiar expressions easier to recognize when the turn changes.

A practice idea to take further

Create a short sequence using Une table pour deux, s’il vous plaît, Je voudrais… and L’addition, s’il vous plaît. Leave a pause after each request for your partner’s response.

A short exercise is most useful when you return to it. Revisit the exchange on another day, change one detail and notice what you can say without checking your notes. Use any remaining hesitation to choose a question for your next lesson.
