On February 22, 2025, Global French Education welcomed 21 participants to an open French class at 1 Bartley Bull Pkwy, Brampton, ON L6W 3T7. The session was intended for beginners and learners exploring practical French.

A personal introduction with room for a reply

Names, work, interests and where people live formed the core of this interactive open class. The teacher broke an introduction into manageable sentence patterns, then used question-and-answer activities to bring them together. The aim was to give learners language for a recognizable social situation, while keeping each contribution within reach of a beginner.

Putting the language into practice

The interactive format also made responding part of the task. An introduction becomes a conversation when the listener can ask a question or share something in return. Alternating those roles gave the class a reason to revisit basic vocabulary while paying attention to another person’s answer.

A practice idea to take further

Prepare Je m’appelle…, J’habite à… and J’aime… . After each answer, invite your partner to speak with Et vous ? Practise both the introduction and the invitation to respond.

A short exercise is most useful when you return to it. Revisit the exchange on another day, change one detail and notice what you can say without checking your notes. Use any remaining hesitation to choose a question for your next lesson.
