On January 18, 2025, Global French Education welcomed 33 participants to an open French class at 1 Bartley Bull Pkwy, Brampton, ON L6W 3T7. The session was intended for beginners and learners exploring practical French.

Turning an intention into a first exchange

New Year greetings, introductions and everyday small talk provided the starting point for this beginner class. The teacher used short, accessible expressions so that participants could begin communicating without first needing a large vocabulary. The session connected a familiar January intention—starting something new—with the concrete task of introducing yourself to another person.

Putting the language into practice

The class also introduced habits for continued study: listening, reading aloud and taking opportunities to speak. A first lesson can introduce the language, but familiarity develops through returning to it. The useful question after an introduction is therefore what a learner can realistically practise again during the following week.

A practice idea to take further

Set aside a few minutes to say your name, where you live and one interest. Repeat the same introduction on several days, then add one new detail rather than rebuilding the whole text.

A short exercise is most useful when you return to it. Revisit the exchange on another day, change one detail and notice what you can say without checking your notes. Use any remaining hesitation to choose a question for your next lesson.
