On December 14, 2024, Global French Education welcomed 15 participants to an open French class at 1 Bartley Bull Pkwy, Brampton, ON L6W 3T7. The session was intended for beginners and learners exploring practical French.

Thanks, invitations and seasonal greetings

The year-end class centred on expressions that help people stay in touch: greetings, thanks and invitations. Seasonal language gave participants a reason to think about who they were addressing and what they wanted to communicate. A short message to a friend and a greeting to someone less familiar can call for different choices of wording.

Putting the language into practice

With 15 participants, the session provided a smaller setting for oral practice. The content linked everyday courtesy with the social situations of the season, rather than treating holiday greetings as isolated phrases. Thanking someone and adding a simple invitation offered a way to continue an exchange after the first greeting.

A practice idea to take further

Write a two-sentence message using Merci pour… and Bonne année ! Read it aloud, then adapt it for a different recipient. Keep the meaning personal while choosing a suitable level of familiarity.

A short exercise is most useful when you return to it. Revisit the exchange on another day, change one detail and notice what you can say without checking your notes. Use any remaining hesitation to choose a question for your next lesson.
