On August 17, 2024, Global French Education welcomed 31 participants to an open French class at 1 Bartley Bull Pkwy, Brampton, ON L6W 3T7. The session was intended for beginners and learners exploring practical French.
Everyday French at the café
A café order was the focus of this conversational open class. Participants worked on asking for a drink, checking a price, expressing a preference and responding politely. A familiar setting made it possible to explore several communication skills through a single everyday task, without requiring a large vocabulary to begin.

Putting the language into practice
The teacher encouraged learners to take part before expecting a perfect sentence. Repeated attempts in the same setting helped make the expressions more familiar. A café exchange is particularly useful for early speaking practice because it is brief, has a clear purpose and still leaves room for a follow-up question.
A practice idea to take further
Try Un café, s’il vous plaît, then change the drink. Add C’est combien ? and listen for a price. Practise the numbers separately if you can make the request more easily than you can understand the answer.
A short exercise is most useful when you return to it. Revisit the exchange on another day, change one detail and notice what you can say without checking your notes. Use any remaining hesitation to choose a question for your next lesson.
