On July 20, 2024, Global French Education welcomed 25 participants to an open French class at 1 Bartley Bull Pkwy, Brampton, ON L6W 3T7. The session was intended for beginners and learners exploring practical French.

A small set of useful travel exchanges

The travel open class followed situations a visitor might meet soon after arriving: a greeting at the airport, a request for directions and a hotel check-in. These everyday tasks gave learners a way to select useful language. Instead of beginning with a long vocabulary list, the session linked expressions with an immediate reason to speak.

Putting the language into practice

Simulated exchanges brought pronunciation and responses together. Knowing how to ask a question is only part of preparing for travel; recognizing key information in the answer is equally useful. The class offered an introduction to that back-and-forth, with short interactions that could be practised again before a trip.

A practice idea to take further

Practise Bonjour, j’ai une réservation with your name. Add Pouvez-vous répéter, s’il vous plaît ? A phrase for requesting repetition is worth preparing alongside any question you expect to ask.

A short exercise is most useful when you return to it. Revisit the exchange on another day, change one detail and notice what you can say without checking your notes. Use any remaining hesitation to choose a question for your next lesson.
