On June 15, 2024, Global French Education welcomed 38 participants to an open French class at 1 Bartley Bull Pkwy, Brampton, ON L6W 3T7. The session was intended for beginners and learners exploring practical French.

Starting with something personal

Self-introductions, places and personal preferences formed the core of this summer beginner class. Pictures and everyday examples helped connect new vocabulary with recognizable situations. When learners worked with J’aime…, they could choose something they actually enjoyed, giving the sentence a personal meaning rather than treating it only as a grammar exercise.

Putting the language into practice

Questions and short answers created repeated opportunities to use those structures aloud. The session combined pronunciation practice with practical speaking, giving newcomers a view of what learning French involves: hearing a phrase, understanding its purpose and adapting it. An introductory class can make that process tangible before a learner commits to a longer course.

A practice idea to take further

Write three things you like and one place you would like to visit. Practise J’aime… and Je voudrais aller à… with those choices, checking place names and pronunciation before repeating the phrases aloud.

A short exercise is most useful when you return to it. Revisit the exchange on another day, change one detail and notice what you can say without checking your notes. Use any remaining hesitation to choose a question for your next lesson.
