On May 11, 2024, Global French Education welcomed 16 participants to an open French class at 1 Bartley Bull Pkwy, Brampton, ON L6W 3T7. The session was intended for beginners and learners exploring practical French.

Ordering with a clear, polite request

Restaurant French gave this introductory class a clear sequence to follow. Learners worked through greeting a server, choosing food and drinks, making a request and thanking someone before leaving. The phrase Je voudrais… provided a flexible starting point, allowing a small amount of vocabulary to support several different orders.

Putting the language into practice

Taking turns as customer and server connected the order with the response it might receive. That listening element matters as much as naming a dish. A restaurant exchange can include a question, a price or a confirmation, so the class linked useful expressions with the practical task of keeping an interaction moving.

A practice idea to take further

Use a short menu and choose one dish and one drink. Say your order aloud, then add L’addition, s’il vous plaît. On the next round, change the items while keeping the same polite opening.

A short exercise is most useful when you return to it. Revisit the exchange on another day, change one detail and notice what you can say without checking your notes. Use any remaining hesitation to choose a question for your next lesson.
