On March 9, 2024, Global French Education welcomed 28 participants to an open French class at 1 Bartley Bull Pkwy, Brampton, ON L6W 3T7. The session was intended for beginners and learners exploring practical French.
An introduction to French
The beginner open class started with the sounds and expressions learners would need immediately: Bonjour, Merci and a simple introduction. The teacher introduced the French alphabet and connected letter names with the sounds heard in everyday words. For someone starting from scratch, that distinction matters: recognizing a written word and knowing how to say it are two different skills.
Putting the language into practice
Short introduction exercises gave the vocabulary a purpose. Learners practised saying their names and mentioning an interest, moving from individual words towards a complete message. The session offered a manageable first encounter with French: listening to a model, trying it aloud and using it to tell someone something about yourself.

A practice idea to take further
Try a three-line introduction: Bonjour. Je m’appelle Alex. J’aime la musique. Replace the name and interest with your own, then practise without reading. Keep the message short enough to repeat comfortably.
A short exercise is most useful when you return to it. Revisit the exchange on another day, change one detail and notice what you can say without checking your notes. Use any remaining hesitation to choose a question for your next lesson.
