The March 2025 removal of job-offer points: a historical guide
A historical explanation of the March 2025 change, with a clear distinction from the rules introduced in November 2026.

On March 25, 2025, IRCC removed the additional CRS points previously awarded for qualifying job offers. The change affected ranking, but it did not make every job offer irrelevant to immigration.
Historical article, updated November 2026: new job-offer scoring took effect on November 3, 2026. The March 2025 removal should not be used as a description of today’s complete rules.
What was removed in 2025
The former additional-points system could award 50 or 200 CRS points for qualifying arranged employment. Removing those points changed the scores of affected candidates. It did not mean that all applicants lost the same number of points, or that everyone learning French automatically gained an equivalent advantage.
Ranking is relative. Your own score can stay the same while the scores around you change. That is one reason policy headlines cannot be converted directly into a prediction of a future cut-off.
A job offer can serve more than one purpose
Three questions must be kept separate: whether an offer generates CRS points, whether it helps meet a program’s eligibility requirements, and whether it supports authorization to work. An answer about one of these questions does not settle the other two.
| Question | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Does it affect my ranking? | The CRS rules in force on the relevant date. |
| Does it affect eligibility? | The requirements of the specific immigration program. |
| Can I work in the position? | The applicable work-permit rules and conditions. |
Why the November 2026 update matters
The new Labour Market Integration factor introduced a different framework for eligible Canadian experience and qualifying offers in designated high-wage occupations. It is not simply a restoration of the former 50/200-point model.
When reviewing an older article, check the effective date before applying its conclusions. For a French learner, the practical lesson is to develop language ability while reviewing the entire profile under current rules. A strong language result remains useful evidence of ability; its immigration effect depends on the system in force when it is used.
